Blessed Mama Birth Care

Birth preparation and support rooted in Christ

Evidence in one hand. Scripture in the other.

For Christian couples who want the full evidence base for labor and delivery — without leaving their faith at the door. I'm Valerie, a certified doula, childbirth educator, and lactation consultant, coaching couples worldwide and attending births in person across Western Pennsylvania.

Why I do this

There are only two aisles, and neither one is yours.

The hospital will treat your body as a liability to be managed and your faith as a private matter to keep out of the chart. The candles-and-crystals corner of the birth world will at least admit that something holy is happening in that room — and then hand the credit to the wrong God.

I built my practice in the gap. Full evidence, taught honestly, including the parts that are uncomfortable. And a real theology of what your body is doing, drawn from Scripture and taught before you need it, because a woman in transition is not going to sit down and study. She is going to reach for what she already has.

Proof

Women who felt steadier because they were prepared.

Valerie is amazing! I was interested in having a doula for my pregnancy after feeling alone and unprepared at my last birth. Valerie provided valuable information during my pregnancy and was caring and responsive in the weeks leading up to my due date. Valerie was a huge comfort to my husband and I during labor as i transitioned quickly and had my son within 10 minutes of arriving at the hospital. We would’ve been much more scared if we didn’t have her with us during the drive to the hospital. Valerie helped give me the confidence to labor at home for the majority of my birth experience!

— Stephanie

Despite a late transfer to her doula care, Valerie did a great job getting to know us and what was important for Mom during the birth. She did a great job assisting with the unmedicated portion of labor and advocating for Mom when she needed it. Would pick her again as a doula if we were having more kids.

— Christina

Valerie provided excellent care for our family through two pregnancies! She helped us navigate the twists and turns of delivery during the pandemic in 2020. Her virtual support during delivery was outstanding! My husband says it was really nice to have another ear taking in all the info and options to help us make sense of things since there is so much going on during delivery! Valerie also provided postpartum support in our home. Mama got pampered, big brother got lots of love and attention, and baby received loving care as well. Our whole family benefited from Val's knowledge and support, and we will always be so grateful for the way she supported our health and well-being through the transition of welcoming a new member to the family.

Meet Valerie

I have been in the room.

I am a wife, a mother, and a homesteader, and I have been serving birthing families since 2020 as a labor doula, postpartum doula, childbirth educator, and lactation consultant.

I have watched a first-time mama go from certain she could not do it to holding her daughter eleven minutes later. I have watched a birth plan get thrown out at three in the morning and a woman meet that moment with more steadiness than anyone expected, because she had been prepared for it. I have also sat with the ones that went hard, and those are the births that shaped how I teach.

I will not hand you a version of birth that only works when everything goes right. And I will not hand you reverence without telling you where it comes from.

Free resource

Every seat on your birth team — and who is sitting in it.

A printable worksheet that walks the whole roster: your provider, your partner, your doula, the nurse you have not met yet, the person watching your other kids at three in the morning, the friend bringing a meal in week two. You fill in the names and the numbers now, while you can still think clearly. Labor is not the hour to work out who you are calling.

I send one letter a week or so. No spam, and you can leave whenever you like.
